Tiananmen Sqaure

If I ruled the world, I would rid the world of the stupidity and ignorance that has plagued society. I would make sure that those who stood up for what is right were heard and that the injustice seen in history would not be repeated.

The murky green tanks approached slowly. The day was hot and the sun was beating down beating down on us like we were ants being fried through a magnifying glass. Peaceful protests were our right. So why did the tanks and aggressors continue to approach?

If I ruled the world, I would make right the corrupted and cure the mentally unstable. I would change the greed into creative ingenuity and finally make the world function properly.

I was not there, but word of Tiananmen Square was traveling fast. People, using peaceful protest, patiently waited and hoped for change. I saw the tanks passing by. Moving with little haste but yet, their objective was quite clear. I dont blame the driver, or the gunner, or the soldiers. I blame the past leaders and their deranged notions about how a society is run notions about how people should be treated. This was not right.

If I ruled the world, there would be no need for violence. There would be no need for jumping on tanks or sticking daisies in the barrels of guns pointed in your direction. There would be no need for sit-ins or walkouts. There would be no school shootings and no longer a fear of the unknown.

I feel pain in the minds of the tank drivers pain in the minds of the obedient soldiers who dont stop to think of what they are partaking in (I would just say: "doing" instead of "partaking in") pain in the minds of the innocent victims who do not know what is coming.

If I ruled the world, the word "corrupt" would not be in existence. (I would change: "would not be in existence", to "would not exist".) If I ruled the world, people would not be ruthlessly slaughtered for doing nothing wrong. If I ruled the world...

The olive green tanks... The dull black streets... The musky, smog-filled sky... The blistering hot sun... The painful screams heard from afar... The knowledge of what is to come... The fear that lies beneath all... The courage that is about to be shown. (How about: "the courage that I am about to show...") It was my time...

I stand in front of the tank. The tank evades me. I move in front of the tank once more. The tank stops. This was the moment of truth. I could stop them; I had to stop them. I jumped on the tank and made a stand.

  1. Micah, I made some changes to your text, in red, above. This writing could have used a final read-through/revision to smooth out some of the rough patches. I especially like this part: "The olive green tanks... The dull black streets... The musky, smog-filled sky... The blistering hot sun... The painful screams heard from afar... The knowledge of what is to come... The fear that lies beneath all..."
