Hesitation Waltz

{?? Darkroom description. You are the photographer printing in color darkroom.}

She gazed out the window stoically, while her husband feigned interest in the day's paper. The royal blue drapes, a rich velvet, framed her beautifully in the den's window, as soft mid-morning light trickled in through the lace shades. Her husband, however, took no notice. The richly furnished home they occupied, had been feeling barren, arid, desolate--like the distant deserts they had heard of on occasion. It probably wasn't entirely their fault; the unexpected influx of bodies, buildings, bulletins, bills, and excruciating amounts of color overwhelmed their _______. Their familiarity with one another simultaneously dissolved as the city around them morphed, and there wasn't much either of them could agree upon, or resolve. So, she gazed out the window stoically, and he feigned interest in the day's paper.

{?? "NEWSPAPER HEADLINES"}

Day after day, they danced with the pretense of unity and fortitude, settling into their respective loneliness, together.
